ROY WOOD PASSES OVER

Young Man Who Lived at Forest Home Dies at Camp Dodge Monday Night.

ONLY A FEW WEEKS IN THE SERVICE

His Father Called to His Bedside -- Funeral to Be Held Thursday Afternoon.

Another Poweshiek county soldier boy has gone to his reward, and another golden star has been added to the service flag.

Roy Wood, son of John R. Wood of Forest Home, died at Camp Dodge Monday night. His father was notified by wire Monday morning of his son's serious illness and started immediately for Camp Dodge, arriving before his son passed away.

The body was brought home by the father, passing through Grinnell Thursday morning. The funeral was held from the home of his parents Thursday afternoon.

The young man had not been long in the service, having been among the last contingent of drafted men to leave, the Herald is informed.

The family was well known here having at one time lived south of Newburg.

The dread influenza seems more to be feared than the bullets and shells of the Hun, and is making sad havoc in the ranks of the Poweshiek soldiers. We shudder when we think, who will be the next.
