HENRY KOGER SERVICES TODAY

Henry T. Koger, 83, of 511 Main St., Grinnell, died Tuesday afternoon at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home east side facility.

A memorial fund in Mr. Koger's name has been established, and friends may contact the funeral home for additional information.

The son of Elijah and Polly Jane Gregory Koger, he was born Feb. 21, 1895, at Parmleysville, Ky. He moved with his family to Clinton County, Ky., and attended elementary school there. In 1916 he moved to Kellogg where he worked in a tile factory and on various farms in the area.

During World War I, he served for 11 months overseas with the U.S. Army. Following the war he returned to Grinnell.

He was married to Dora Blanche Garrett on Nov. 20, 1919, at Waterloo. Following their marriage, the couple moved to New Sharon and farmed there until 1921 when they moved to the Grinnell area to farm. Following his wife's death, he was married to Lois Rebecca Munford on June 29, 1952.

Mr. Koger was a member of the Farm Bureau and served for 18 years as a director and later president of the Federal Land Bank at Marengo. He was a member of Hermon Masonic Lodge No. 273; Beulah Chapter No. 47 of the Eastern Star, and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Des Moines. He was a 50-year member of Stanley Marchellino Post No. 53 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; his children Robert W. Koger of Everett, Wash., Ralph H. Koger of Boone, Raymond L. Koger of Grinnell, and Mrs. Marie Belle Gildersleeve of rural Fennimore, Wis.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Riley, Elmer and Wilmer Koger of Newcastle, Ind., and Darcus DeHart of Muncie, Ind.; and four sisters, Mrs. Marie Shearer of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Minnie Jones of Monticello, Ky., Mrs. Roxie Gregory of Mountain Home, Ark., and Mrs. Myrtle Johnson of Mesa, Ariz.

RITES HELD FOR HENRY KOGER

Funeral services for Henry T. Koger, 83, of 511 Main St., Grinnell, who died Tuesday afternoon, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church.

The Rev. James P. Russell of the United Methodist Church and the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiated. Organist was Kathleen Heffner.

Honorary pallbearers were Calvin Barns, M.C. Brooks, Carl Freese, Bill Munford, and Earl Smith. Pallbearers were Clyde Austin, Walter Barnes, George Baustian, Dale Clark, Don Hudnutt, Ola Gildersleeve, and Don Latham.

Masonic services were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with F.W. Tomasek and members of the Hermon Masonic Lodge officiating. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
