MRS. D.B. WAY AT REST

Stricken With Paralysis at Her Home Saturday Night and Dies at Noon Sunday.

A RESIDENT OF GRINNELL SINCE AUTUMN OF '85

Funeral Occurs Wedneday From Home--Two Sons From Atlantic Coast In Attendance.

The death of Mrs. David B. Way occurred Sunday noon at her home, 932 Park street, in this city. Her death was sudden. She had been in apparent good health and had been busy about her home the day before her death. At 10:15 o'clock Saturday night, a few minutes afer retiring, she was stricken with paralysis which rendered her unconscious. She aroused to partial consciousness a little later. An hour and a half after the first stroke she received another and from then until she passed away she was in a condition of coma.

Marilda Eliza Dunton was born July 24, 1848, in Delaware county, Ohio. In 1850 she came with her parents to Iowa, locating near Iowa City. At the age of six she lost her mother by death, and then made her home with her grandmother, Mrs. Lemuel Humphrey, and aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Humphrey Bradley. During her girlhood she attended school near Iowa City and later in Montour. Later, with her sister, Henrietta, she attended the State University at Iowa City.

In 1868 she was united in marriage to David B. Way of Montour, and there they founded a beautiful Christian home. Afterwards they moved to Anita, Iowa, and came to Grinnell in the fall of 1885, and since made their home here.

To this union was born three children: Mrs. D.S. Umbenhauer of Grinnell, Walter B. Way of Boston, and Harold D. Way of New York City. She is survived by her husband and all three children. Besides, she leaves four grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews. She was the last of her family, all having preceded her to the eternal home.

Early in life Mrs. Way was converted and joined the Methodist church. When the family moved to Grinnell she transferred her membership to the Congregational church, and remained a faithful member until the last. She was a member of the D.A.R. of this city.

The funeral was held Wednesday from the home, conducted by Rev. E.M. Vittum, pastor of the Grinnell Congregational church. A quartet, composed of Mrs. Jessie Harriman Schuyler, Miss Margery Warner, Fred Morrison and David E. Peck, sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "My Jesus As Thou Will." The pallbearers were D.S. Morrison, C.F. Ricker, T.H. Buchanan, L.W. Taylor, M.L. Hunt and H.C. Morse.

The out-of-town relatives besides the two sons, were as follows, L.T. Recknor and two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Peterson and Mrs. Tess McNees, brother-in-law and nieces of deceased, all of Creston, Misses Leila and Effie Phillips of Brooklyn.
