DUNTON RITES HERE TODAY

Poweshiek Resident For Eighty Years

Frank P. Dunton, Brooklyn business man for over 50 years, died at his home here Tuesday. He had been in ill health and had not been active for several years.

Services, in charge of the Rev. Clarence E. Thiele, pastor of the Grace Methodist church, were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, at Bramer's funeral home.

Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Henry Frus, Mark Johnston, L.H. VanZee, Kenneth Smith, Jess Meredith and E.L. Newton.

Frank P. Dunton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Dunton was born December 8, 1865 in Princeton, Ill. and died at his home in Brooklyn, June 1, 1948.

At the age of two he came with his parents to Iowa and soon settled in Lincoln township near the present town of Guernsey, where he grew to manhood.

He was married to Clara E. Baker December 25, 1889. His wife died in 1932.

In 1893 he moved from his farm south of Brooklyn to Brooklyn where he and his brother, Wes, entered the implement business. In about 1900 he purchased the grain and coal business with which he was associated until the time of his death.

When a young man he joined the Brethren church and for many years served as deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He also served his community for many years as member of the school board, town councilman and, until his health failed, as a director of the Poweshiek County Savings Bank.

Surviving are his older brother, Willard, his sister, Mrs. Minnie Brooks, two sons, Leo and Guy, all of Brooklyn, his granddaughter, Mildred Sowerwine and great-grandson, Robert Sowerwine, of Grinnell.
