DELORES KOGER

Delores Koger, 75, of Grinnell died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at St. Francis Manor.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Len Eberhart and Deacon Diane Eberhart, pastors of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Music was by Kathleen Heffner, organist. Casket bearers were Jeff McNulty, Bryan McNulty, Christopher McNulty and John McNulty. Honorary bearers were Doris and Charlie Bryan, Sue and Bob Dimit, Doris Lowry, Twyla and Art Wells and Donna and Russ Winburn. Interment was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Poweshiek County 4-H, Grinnell Regional Medical Center or the United Methodist Church.

She was born Dec. 15, 1930, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Clarence and Nettie Lukehart of Laurel. She was a 1948 graduate of Laurel High School after which she attended a travel school in Omaha, Neb. She moved to Grinnell and became employed at Grinnell State Bank where she worked for over 35 years as a teller in the note department. She was married on Dec. 4, 1949, to Raymond Koger at the United Methodist Church in Laurel. They lived on the Koger family farm south of Grinnell where they operated a grain and livestock farm. In 1979 she joined the staff of the Grinnell Travel Center for five years, then returned to Grinnell State Bank where she began the bank's Heritage Club, serving as its operations director until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of Oak Grove Friends Church, United Methodist Church, Grinnell Elks Lodge, Iowa Farm Bureau and Blue Point Friendship Club. She also served as a leader of Washington Merry Workers 4-H Club.

She was an avid reader and liked to watch ISU and UI football and basketball games. She and her husband enjoyed getting together with card-club friends, going dancing and out to dinner. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and children, including to all 50 states, and several foreign countries. Highlights included attending the Iowa State Fair, several world's fairs, Koger cousin reunions and wintering in Arizona.

She is survived by one son Steven Koger of Grinnell and one daughter Cindi Schlater of Exira; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years; one brother Lavern Lukehart and one daughter Susan Elaine Koger.
