RONALD BALTISBERGER

Ronald W. Baltisberger, 80, of rural Malcom, died Sunday, Jan. 22, at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn.

He was born Aug. 28, 1914 near Malcom, the son of Ivry J. and Lodi (Carpenter) Baltisberger. He was graduated from Malcom High School in 1933. He also attended a herdsman course at Iowa State University in 1938. In June, 1941 he was united in marriage with Gladys Hutchison at her parents' home, rural Malcom.

To this union two sons and two daughters were born. He farmed all of his life and after retirement did a lot of woodworking in his shop at home.

Ronald was active in his community, serving as a Pleasant Township trustee, on the board of the Malcom Co-op Elevator, serving as secretary for several years. He had been president of the Malcom Telephone Company, had served as a township assessor, had served on the Malcom Manor board and was a long time trustee of the Malcom Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Michael VanErsvelde.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Gladys and their family: Gerald and Diane Baltisberger of Grinnell, Jack and Cathy Baltisberger of Malcom, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pulliam of Cedar Rapids, and Janet and Jim VanErsvelde of Montezuma; eight grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Odessa Douglass of Grinnell, Lois Van Gorp of Spirit Lake, and Edna Badger of Malcom; one brother, Wilbur Baltisberger of Malcom, and other relatives and many friends.

Services were held Jan. 25 at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma. Officiant of the services was Rev. Melinda Cree-Anthony.

The congregational hymn was "How Great Thou Art." Music was provided by organist Mrs. Margaret Wheeler playing "Amazing Grace."

Casket bearers were Todd VanErsvelde, Troy VanErsvelde, Brett VanErsvelde, Ben Baltisberger, Brian Baltisberger, Melissa Ochs, Rebecca Baltisberger, Diane VanErsvelde and Dawnel VanErsvelde.

Interment was at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.
