GLADYS MAE BALTISBERGER, 92

Gladys Baltisberger, 92, of Grinnell and formerly of Malcom, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, at the Friendship Manor Care Center in Grinnell. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 29, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Interment was held in the Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grinnell Regional Hospice, Malcom United Methodist Church, or the Ivy Hill Cemetery. Gladys Mae Baltisberger, daughter of Cooper and Ina (Neville) Hutchison was born on March 22, 1917, in Malcom. She graduated from Malcom High School in 1935. After high school, Gladys attended Iowa State Teachers College receiving her teaching certificate. Gladys taught at Malcom No. 9 Country School for five years before she was married. On June 10, 1941, Gladys was united in marriage to Ronald Baltisberger on the family farm in Malcom. To this union four children were born, Gerald, Jack, Phyllis and Janet. Gladys was a 4-H Leader for several years. She also served on the Poweshiek County Fair Board. She was a member of the Poweshiek County Republican Committee, the Malcom United Methodist Church, and the Jolly Bunch Club. Gladys worked at the election polls for many years. She was an avid gardener. She enjoyed crafts, embroidering, sewing and above all her family.

Her memory is honored by her three children, Gerald (Diane) Baltisberger of Grinnell, Phyllis (Jim) Pulliam of Cedar Rapids, and Janet (Jim) Van Ersvelde of Motnezuma; one brother, Claire (Rosemary) Hutchison of Grinnell; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; other family members; and many friends.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Cooper and Ina Hutchison; her husband, Ronald Baltisberger in 1995; a son, Jack Baltisberger in 2007; and two grandchildren, Mike Van Ersvelde in 1994, and Rod Baltisberger in 2008.
