--Mr. James Baty was born in Tyrone county, Ireland, September 8, 1819 and died at Vinton, Iowa, on October 19, 1904 of Bright's Disease, at the age of 85 years. When but eight years old he came with his parents to this country, settling in Jefferson county, Indiana. There he was married in 1843 to Miss Lavinia Watson and the same year they came to Benton county, Iowa, where they remained till 1846 when they removed to Marshall county. This remained his home till about six years ago since which time he has made his home with his two daughters, Mrs. E.J. Thorpe of this city and Mrs. Rachel Pegg of Vinton, at whose home he died. At the age of twenty-two he united with the Methodist church and remained an active member taking much interest in church affairs till the infirmities of old age forced him to give up an active particiaption. The funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.J. Thorpe, in this city, this morning at 10:30 and were conducted by the Rev. J.M. McClelland of the Methodist church.
