MRS. LAVINA BATY PASSES AWAY

Lavina Watson was born in Jefferson county, Indiana, on January 8, 1816, and in the spring of 1843 she chose her life partner, Mr. James Baty of that community. They remained in Indiana ten years and then moved to Iowa, settling near the city of Vinton in Benton county. In 1863 they moved to Marshall county and settled near Marshalltown, where they lived a happy and prosperous life till the spring of 1893, when, on account of Mrs. Baty's feeble condition, they began living with Mrs. G.D. Pegg, their daughter, of Marshalltown. Eleven years ago they moved to Grinnell where they have made their home with their daughter, Mrs. E.J. Thorp.

Mrs. Baty for the last year has suffered untold agony from the effects of an eating cancer, but she bore her pain remarkable until 9:30 Thursday evening, March 28, when she passed away. She leaves behind to mourn their loss her husabnd, two daughters, Mrs. G.R. Thorp and Mrs. G.D. Pegg, and also two brothers, Henry an Ezra Watson, and one sister, Mrs. Eliza Eaton of Vinton.

At the age of sixteen Mrs. Baty united with the Presbyterian church and was true to her vows then taken till the last. The future seemed bright to her and she often expressed her desire to leave this world of sorrows and be eternally at rest in heaven.

The funeral was conducted by the Rev. E.M. Vittum on Friday, March 29, at the home of Mr. E.J. Thorp.

CARD OF THANKS

Mr. Baty and all bereaved ones wish to express their thanks to the many friends who were so kind in their time of sorrow.
