AN OBITUARY OF JOHN W. WILEY

John W. Wiley, long time resident of Scott Township, son of Foster and Rachel Wiley was born in Illinois, on Febraury 10th, 1862 and passed away at his home 5 miles northeast of Montezuma on Tuesday afternoon at 3:10 o'clock.

He was happily married in 1893 to Clara Lineweaver. To this union were born two children, Homer Wiley and Mrs. Hazel Hall of Brooklyn.

Mr. Wiley lived on the farm where he died, for 52 years and was known as a successful farmer, a kind and willing neighbor, an affectionate husband and loving father. He was confirmed in the Episcopal Church when a child and in the year 1889, was received into membership in the Methodist Episcopal Church during the pastorate of Matt Hughes, afterwards Bishop of the Methodist Church.

Besides the grief stricken companion and children, there are two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Miller of Malcom, and Mrs. Howard Hughes of Grinnell, and four brothers Robert and Henry of Malcom and James of Grinnell and Joseph of Newton, also three grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Montezuma conducted by the Rev. A.H. Barker, on Thursday afternoon. Interment was made at the Montezuma Cemetery.
