SERVICES HELD DECEMBER 13 FOR MRS. CHARLES JOHNSTON

Final services for Mrs. Charles (Helen) Johnston were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Montezuma Methodist Church. The Rev. Howard Hayes officiated. Miss Alice Underwood was the organist.

Casket bearers were Donald Arvidson, Elmer Arvidson, Emil Arvidson, Clifford Hicks, Alfred Byers and Howard Hicks. Burial was in the Jackson Township Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnston, 59, died at her home near Montezuma Sunday, Dec. 10.

The daughter of Joseph and Beryl Ammann, she was born on a farm north of Montezuma on Nov. 7, 1908.

She attended rural school and graduated from Brooklyn High School with the Class of 1928. She taught rural school for two years.

In her youth she joined the Deep River Methodist Church and later transferred her membership to the Montezuma Methodist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher in the Fairview Church for several years.

On March 19, 1930, she was united in marriage with Charles E. Johnston. To this union three children were born.

She was a member of the Willing Workers and the Sunshine Club and was active as long as her health permitted. She had been in failing health for nearly 20 years.

Survivors include her husband and their three children, Beverly Hicks of Marion, Iowa, and Dean and Stanley, at home; three grandchildren, Brenda, Nancy and Tommy Hicks; one sister, Mrs. Ralph Peters and one brother, Edward Ammann, both of Montezuma.
