EMIL ARVIDSON

Emil Arvidson, 87, of rural Brooklyn, died Thursday morning July 14, in Friendship Manor, Grinnell.

Services for Mr. Arvidson were held at 10:30 a.m. July 18 in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel Ogata, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church, Malcom, officiated. Organist was Mrs. Marilyn Kriegel and soloist was Mrs. Sue Kluber. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hall and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kuntz. Casket-bearers were Brent Arvidson, Brad Arvidson, Rodney Arvidson, Mindy Arvidson, Tammy Deppe, Nancy Blom and Amanda Weisskopf. Interment was in the Brooklyn Cemetery.

Oscar Emil Theodore Arvidson, son of Benjamin and Gertrude Peterson Arvidson, was born near Montezuma, Sept. 13, 1906.

Emil received his education in Scott Township School #8 and #9. He farmed with his father until he married. He was united in marriage to Lois Marie Hall Jan. 15, 1929, in the home of Eldon Hall, Brooklyn. They farmed for two or three years south of Brooklyn. He then worked for five years for International Harvestor of Montezuma. They returned to the farm south of Brooklyn where he farmed, operated Arvidson Repair and did custom silo filling for many years.

Emil loved country music, dining out, and socializing with his family and friends. Surviving are one son and his wife, Ronald and Shirley Arvidson of Malcom; two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Edward Roche of Eureka, Calif., and Carolyn and Robert Weisskopf of Grinnell; two sisters, Viola McDowell of Montezuma and Ruth Ballard of Tama; seven grandchildren: Brent Arvidson of Brooklyn, Brad Arvidson of Iowa City, Rodney Arvidson of Brooklyn, Mindy Arvidson of Malcom, Tammy Deppe of Victor, Nancy Blom of Grinnell and Amanda Weisskopf of Grinnell, and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Arvidson and Andrea Arvidson, both of Brooklyn, and Dustin Deppe of Victor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife who died Nov. 17, 1984; one son, Keith; and three brothers.
