FUNERAL SATURDAY FOR ELZA GOODLOW

Elza Goodlow, 73, a Lincoln township farmer for many years, died last Thursday in Mercy hospital at Iowa City where he had been admitted the previous Tuesday. Mr. Goodlow had been in poor health for the last few years.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist church in Deep River with the Rev. William Morehouse officiating. Mrs. Lyle Cole was organist.

Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Montezuma with Cecil Phelps, Vesta Johnston, Howard White, Robert McLain, Arthur Reed and Glenn Connell serving as pallbearers. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Souter.

Elza Hiram Goodlow, son of Thomas and Ellen Goodlow, was born in Scott township, near Deep River, on Nov. 7, 1890, and died April 30, 1964. He attended the nearby rural school. Mr. Goodlow attended church regularly at the Fairview church until it was discontinued. He then became a member of the Deep River Methodist church where he remained an active member until his death.

On Dec. 30, 1914, he was married to Alice I. Dunton in Brooklyn. They established their home in Lincoln township where he lived until his death. They were the parents of three children, one of whom, Wendall Elza, preceded him in death. Mr. Goodlow had served several years as a member of the Guernsey board of education and was a Funk's seed corn salesman for several years in addition to his farming.

He is survived by his widow, Alice; a son, Daryl Goodlow of Deep River and a daughter, Mrs. Lyle (Arlene) Goodwin of Malcom. He also leaves four grandchildren, Mrs. Linda Albers, Mrs. Louise Simpson and Krista and Diane Goodlow, and one great-granddaughter, Carolyn Sue Albers. One brother and two sisters also survive. They are Elver Goodlow and Fannie Goodlow, both of Montezuma, and Mrs. Maggie Johnston of Deep River.
