MILDRED SOWERWINE

Mildred Arlene Sowerwine, 72, of Grinnell died Sunday, May 30, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lon L. Lewis, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Guy C. and Blanche Negus Dunton, she was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Brooklyn. She attended Brooklyn schools, graduating form high school in 1938. She then attended A.I.C. in Davenport.

She was married to Don Sowerwine June 23, 1939, in Cedar Rapids. They lived in Monticello and Manchester before moving to Grinnell in 1942. Mrs. Sowerwine was employed by the Tent and Awning Co., Safeway, J.C. Penney's and as a nurse's aide at St. Francis Hospital. She also was a volunteer worker at Grinnell General Hospital and the Knoxville Veterans Home.

She was a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary, holding the offices of president, past president, vice president and conductor.

Surviving are her husband, Don; one son, Robert of Slidell, La.; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
