RITES HELD FOR CORDA HAINES

Corda Haines, 94, of Grinnell died Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert C. Smith of the First Baptist Church officiating. Organist was Barbara Lien. Pallbearers were John Hotchkin, Bill Kiesey, Mike Mintle Steve Mintle, Bernard Young and Olaf Young. Flower bearers were Eleanor Miller, Vera Robison and Jean Schrader.

Burial was at the Old Settlers Cemetery, Lynnville.

The daughter of General Washington and Laura Young Adkins, she was born Sept. 2, 1888, near Rock Creek Lake. She attended rural school near the family farm home.

On Dec. 25, 1906, she was married to David F. Haines. The couple lived in Grinnell, and she was employed as a sales clerk for the former Broadway Department Store and the Wollen Shoe Store. The family also operated the Haines Shady Oaks Tourist Camp west of Grinnell. Mrs. Haines was a 50-year member of the Pythian Sisters and the Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by her children, Harold E. Haines of Kellogg and Naomi Youngman of San Leandro, Calif.; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cretia Strasser of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Cash Adkins; and her sister, Statia Ray.
