ANDREW HAINES LONGTIME GRINNELL RESIDENT, DIES

Andrew J. (Andy) Haines, 80, of Tiny Acres, Grinnell, died suddenly at his home Monday afternoon.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. Ercil J. Craven, pastor of the Oak Grove Friends church officiating. Vocal music was provided by Mrs. Wayne Dayton, accompanied by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner at the organ.

Pallbearers were Raymond Delk, Roger Haines, Roy Haines, Richard Haines, Terry Freeborn, and Bill Haines. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery at Brooklyn.

The son of John L. and Arnetta Nusbaum Haines, he was born on Dec. 19th, 1883, at Brooklyn. He was a graduate of the Brooklyn schools and atended the Christian church.

On Aug. 28th, 1912, at Montezuma, he was united in marriage with Pearl Otto. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Brooklyn and Deep River communities. For the past 30 years he had lived in the Grinnell community.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl; five sons, Ralph and William of Grinnell, Wallace of Montezuma, John of Sigourney, and Ray of Gilman; four daughters, Mrs. Jack (Zella) Delk, Mrs. Eugene (Fern) Freeborn, Mrs. Leo (Betty) Kelm, and Mrs. Robert (Catherine) Akers, all of Grinnell.

Also surviving are 35 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren; one brother, Walter of Omaha, Neb.; and two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Britt of Colfax and Mrs. Dora Woodle of Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, four brothers, and one sister.
