MRS. BAUSTIAN RITES TODAY

Martha Adele Baustian, 87, of Friendship Manor died Monday evening, March 16, at Grinnell General Hospital, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church of Malcom, with the Rev. Lawrence Fitzpatick and the Rev. John Maze officiating. Music was provided by Charlotte Herzberg, organist, and Ruth Ann Dayton and Wilma Schmitz, vocalists. Pallbearers were Ronald Baltisberger, Merle Harris, Clair Hutchison, William Neville, Richard Sears and Farrell G. Siehl.

Fraternal rites were conducted by members of Poweshiek Rebekah Lodge No. 67, with burial at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom. The Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of William and Cora Nutting Neville, she was born Oct. 20, 1893, near Malcom. She was raised in the Malcom area, attending local schools and Grinnell High School.

On June 16, 1915, she was married to Ben E. Baustian at her family home. The couple had three children. Mr. and Mrs. Baustian farmed north of Malcom for 25 years, moving to another farm near Malcom in 1940. They retired in 1945, moving to Malcom.

Mrs. Baustian was a member of the Poweshiek Rebekah Lodge No. 67 of Malcom for 63 years, the Malcom Garden Club and the Pleasant Hill Grange.

Survivors include her daughter, Thelma Hanssen of Rte. 3, Grinnell; a son, George Baustian of Rte. 2, Malcom; one granddaughter; and a brother, Orville Neville of Malcom. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1961; a daughter, Muriel, in infancy; a brother, Rex Neville; and a sister, Ina Hutchison.
