LOCAL BUSINESSMAN, FRANK GREEN, 53, DIES WEDNESDAY
A prominent Grinnell businessman, Frank P. Green, 53, owner of Green's Tot Shop, local children's clothing store, died suddenly late Wednesday afternoon of a heart condition at his home in Oakland Acres west of Grinnell.
Requiem High Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from St. Mary's Catholic church with the Rev. Leo V. Kuebrich, pastor, officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Calvary section of Hazelwood cemetery.
He was the son of Peter and Mary Anne Hartnett Green and was born Feb. 22, 1912, at Gilmore City, Iowa. He attended and graduated from St. John's Catholic high school in Gilmore City.
On June 26, 1935, he was married to Thelma May Lundy at Ft. Dodge. They lived in Webster City for two years and in 1937 moved to Grinnell to make their home. At that time, Mr. Green traveled for the Jacob E. Decker Packing Co. of Mason City.
In 1945, he purchased the "Little Store," an east side grocery store in Grinnell, which he operated for five years. In 1952, he opened an exclusive children's clothing store in Grinnell; and in 1954 built the building in which Green's Tot Shop is presently located on Broad Street.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1266 of Grinnell.
Survivors include his widow Thelma; three children, Mrs. Kenneth (Joan) Wright of Kansas City, Mo., Paul L. Green of Grinnell, and Michael L. Green at the family home. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Richard, Delbert and Denise Green; his mother, Mrs. Peter Green of Gilmore City; and two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Gladys) Schaffer of Mason City and Mrs. Neil (Selma) Ruse of Humboldt.
He was preceded in death by his father and a daugther, Margaret Lea, who passed away in infancy.
