RITES HELD FOR EVERETT SANGER

Everett Robert Sanger, 80, of 532 Park St., Grinnell, died early Monday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.

The son of Edward D. and Lucinda J. Hibler Sanger, he was born Nov. 20, 1893, at Creston, Iowa. When he was 11, he moved with his family to Grinnell and attended local schools. He worked at the Grinnell Herald office as a bookbinder. During World War I, he served overseas with the U.S. Army.

On Nov. 8, 1924, he was married to Mary Katherine Jantzen in Iowa City. The couple had three children, Mrs. Michael (Myrtle Lou) Mardikes of Kansas City, Mo.; Thomas E. Sanger of Grinnell; and David E. Sanger of Salida, Colo. Since 1928, Mr. Sanger had owned and operated the Sanger Plumbing and Heating business in Grinnell. Due to failing health, he retired from his business some years ago.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hermon Masonic Lodge No. 273, Focht-Tennant Post No. 53 of the American Legion, and the Knights of Pythias.

Survivors include his wife Mary, his three children, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Fred Sanger; a sister, Mrs. LaFerne Olson; and a half-sister, Mrs. Toy Collum.

Funeral services for Mr. Sanger were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John W. McCallum, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner. Honorary pallbearers were Carl E. Schild, Eldon Olds, Robert J. Sandler and Bernard Schmitz. Pallbearers were Robert E. Anderson, Edwin Green, Arthur Grosenbach, Merton Johnson, James Schults, and Frank Wilder.

Masonic rites were conducted by F.W. Tomasek and members of Hermon Masonic Lodge. Veterans gravesdie rites were conducted by the Veterans Ceremonial Unit, W.K. Richardson, chaplain, and Don Baker, commander.
