MRS. MEHLIN DIES; SERVICES WEDNESDAY
Mrs. Addie O. Mehlin, 88, widow of Theodore John Mehlin, died suddenly this (Monday, May 13) morning at Grinnell General Hospital East, shortly after her admittance.
The daughter of Tobias and Rachel Humes Lamb, Mrs. Mehlin was born near What Cheer, Iowa, on March 22, 1880. When she was a young girl, her family moved to a farm north of Malcom, and she attended the rural schools near her farm home.
On Dec. 20, 1900, she was married to Theodore John Mehlin at her parents' home. To this union were born seven children, six of whom survive--Mrs. Rufus (Lina) Hummel of Waterloo; Leslie T. Mehlin of Rte. 1, Malcom; Mrs. Leonard (Augusta) Pedersen of Grinnell; Ray T. Mehlin of Onamia, Minn.; Charles F. Mehlin of Waterloo; and Wayne V. Mehlin of Minneapolis, Minn.
Mr. and Mrs. Mehlin had farmed for 36 years in Grant and Sheridan townships, until Mr. Mehlin retired. Following her husband's death on July 20, 1951, Mrs. Mehlin made her home in Grinnell with her sister, Mrs. Myrtle Jantzen, and, following Mrs. Jantzen's death, with her children. Survivors include six children, 11 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and one sister--Mrs. Sadie Kensinger of Princeton, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Reno, in infancy; two grandchildren, seven brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mehlin will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester Custer, minister of the Grinnell Methodist church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner.
Burial will be made in Hazelwood cemetery.
