RITES FRIDAY FOR MYRTLE JANTZEN, LONGTIME RESIDENT

Mrs. Myrtle D. Jantzen, age 87, of 513 East Street, died Tuesday evening at a local hospital following failing health the past year.

She was the widow of Herman A. Jantzen, who preceded her in death in 1939.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Grinnell Methodist church with the Rev. Chester Custer, pastor of the church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers will be Melvin Kensinger, Earl Lamb, Garland Lamb, John Lamb, LaVerne Lamb and Leslie Mehlin. Flower bearers will be Mrs. LaVerne Lamb and Mrs. Leslie Mehlin.

Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery at Malcom. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jantzen was the daughter of Tobias and Rachel Humes Lamb and was born near What Cheer, Iowa on January 26, 1877. At an early age her family moved from What Cheer to a farm north of Malcom. She attended the rural schools near the family farm.

She was married to Herman A. Jantzen on October 19, 1894 at Malcom and to this union were born 8 children, 4 of whom survive her: Ernest F. Jantzen of Quincy, Illinois; Mrs. Everett (Mary) Sanger, Mrs. Edwin (Hattie) Pedersen, and Paul K. Jantzen, all of Grinnell.

Mrs. Jantzen moved to Grinnell in 1903 and has made her home here since that time. She was a member of the Methodist church and had recently received a lifetime membership pin from the WSCS for her loyalty and faithfulness to her church. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbors, Daughters of Union Veterans, and the Grandmothers' club.

Mrs. Jantzen is survived by her 4 children; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren as well as 2 sisters: Mrs. Addie Mehlin of Grinnell and Mrs. Friend (Sadie) Kensinger of Malcom.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman; 4 children: Edith and Louis in infancy, Rachel, a young girl; and Thomas Jantzen in 1960. Also preceding her in death were 7 brothers and 2 sisters.
