GEORGE STEPHEN SERVICES HELD

George Stephen, 83, of Rte. 1, Malcom, died Sunday morning at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services for Mr. Stephen were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lawrence P. Fitzpatrick, pastor of the Malcom-Sheridan Parish, officiating. Music was provided by Kathy Pohlmann, organist, and Robert Burk, vocalist. Pallbearers were Bill Burk, Donald Burk, Keith Mithelman, Rene Stephen, Robert Stephen, and Roger Stephen. Burial was at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The son of Francis and Mary Ann Reynolds Stephen, he was born Aug. 7, 1894, near Montezuma. He attended school in the Malcom and Montezuma areas.

On April 5, 1920, he was marreid to Violet Grace Bard. The couple had one daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen had farmed on their present farm for 54 years.

Mr. Stephen is survived by his wife, Violet; his daughter, Mrs. Mary Maxine Harris of Dubuque; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Verda Shook of Sioux City; and four brothers, Francis, Paul, Orrin and Walter Stephen, all of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
