SERVICES HELD FOR MARIE BOLEN

Marie Agnew Bolen, 75, of 1414 Summer St., died Sunday, June 10, at the Mayflower Home Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating.

Organist was Joyce Wubbels and vocalist was Gene Wubbels. Pallbearers were LaVerne Durkee, Luther Erickson, Richard Mitchell, Mac Mollison, Ray Obermiller and Louis G. Zirkel. Honorary pallbearers were Donald Lewis, William Oelke and Kenneth Thompson.

Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery at Malcom. A memorial fund will be established in Mrs. Bolen's name and memorials can be sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

The daughter of Andrew and Athelia Maxwell Schultz, she was born on June 22, 1908 in Malcom Township, Poweshiek County. She attended rural school near the family home and later graduated from Grinnell High School in 1925.

Following her graduation from high school, she was married to William Fay Agnew; they had two children, June and Dan. The couple farmed near Malcom, and following her husband's death, she operated Marie's Cafe in Malcom.

She was then married to Gerald L. Bolen and the couple made their home in Grinnell. She was employed in the housekeeping department at Grinnell College from 1954 to 1973, and she was also employed as a cook at the former Community Hospital in Grinnell and at the Malzuma Inn near Malcom. For the past ten years, Mrs. Bolen worked part-time at the Four Winds Motel. She was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational of Grinnell.

Survivors include her son, Dan Agnew of Grinnell; two grandchildren; and one sister, Lois White of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; and her daughter, June Agnew.
