MILDRED BURK

Mildred Irene Burk, 93, of St. Francis Manor died Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Raymond C. Lott officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Gerald Arment, David Austin, Robert Bigelow, Robert Harris, Michael Kinney, Lyle Phipps, Paul Strovers and Clayton Tew.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of John Bard and Dolly Bolen Bard Wichman, she was born April 7, 1898, in Tama County. She was a graduate of Malcom High School, and following her education she taught school in Poweshiek County.

She was married to Emil W. "Mike" Burk Aug. 27, 1918, in New Brunswick, N.J. They lived in Brooklyn before moving to Grinnell in 1936.

Mrs. Burk worked for Cunningham Drug and McNally's Foods, then worked for Dr. John Parish for many years.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, Win One Sunday School, the Westfield Ladies Aid, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Past Presidents Club of the auxiliary.

Surviving are her sons, Bill of Grinnell and Donald of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Violet Stephen of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her stepfather, Dick Wichman.
