DICK WICHMAN RITES THURSDAY

Dick Wichman, 91, of 1020 Chatterton St., Grinnell, died early Monday (Oct. 28) morning at Grinnell General Hospital, East, following failing health the past few months. The son of John D. and Anna Katherine Haase Wichman, Mr. Wichman was born near Williamsburg, Iowa, on April 12, 1877. Later his family moved to the Victor area and when he was a young boy to the family farm north of Malcom. He attended the rural schools near his farm home. On March 5, 1906 Mr. Wichman was married to Dolly Bolen Bard at Tama, Iowa. He continued to farm in the Malcom and Sheridan areas of Poweshiek County and retired from farming in 1923. Mr. and Mrs. Wichman lived in Malcom for 21 years before moving to Grinnell to make their home in 1944. Mr. Wichman was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly, on June 21, 1961. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. E.W. (Mildred) Burk, Sr., of Grinnell, and Mrs. George (Violet) Stephen of Malcom; three grandchildren--Mrs. Robert (Maxine) Harris of Dubuque; E.W. (Bill) Burk Jr., of Grinnell; and Donald Burk of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Henry Wichman of Malcom, Iowa.

Mr. Wichman was also preceded in death by one great-granddaughter and two brothers and three sisters--Lou Wichman in 1927; Clause Wichman in 1937; Mrs. Ella Bastian in 1945; Mrs. Mollie Schilder in 1954; and Mrs. Mathilda Cady in 1958. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Funeral services for Dick Wichman will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Spears pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, officiating.

Burial will be made in Ivy Hill Cemetery at Malcom, Iowa.
