Pioneer County Resident Dies Suddenly At Home

Funeral services for William Bolen, pioneer resident of Poweshiek county, were conducted at Bramer's funeral home Friday afternoon, Nov. 29, at two o'clock, with Stephen J. Epler of the Madison Church of Christ in charge. Miss Thursia Manatt was at the organ.

Interment was in Sheridan cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Gerald E. Bolen, Donald Bolen, Bruce Bolen, Kenneth Gross, Leonard Lamb and Merle Lamb.

Mr. Bolen's death occurred at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 27 at his home seven miles northwest of Brooklyn. He was born in Madison township Jan. 12, 1874, and had been in poor health for several years. He died suddenly, as he was going out to drive his car to Brooklyn and Montezuma. He was 72 years old.

Mr. Bolen was married to Sylvia Lamb Feb. 22, 1897. The family had lived on the same farm for 45 years and would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary next February. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge in Brooklyn and for 12 years served as a member of the county board of supervisors.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by five children: Michael and Ephriam of Brooklyn, Gerald of Montezuma, and Verner and Gladys See of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild; a brother, Ed Bolen, of Malcom, and two sisters, Mrs. Grace Porter of Des Moines and Mrs. Dick Wichman of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by an adopted son, Alfred Bolen, in 1930, and a sister, Mrs. Julius Gross.
