CLAUDE C. PIGMAN

Claude C. Pigman was born in Ohio, April 16, 1837, and died July 30th, 1906. He was married in 1861 to Eleanor Haines in Hancock county, Illinois. To this union six children were born, all but one of whom, Mary, the firstborn are living. The three sons are Charles, John and Claude, the daughters, Mrs. Charles Laros and Mrs. Robert Duncan. All were present at the funeral except Charles who being in Arizona was unable to be present.

In 1868 Mr. Pigman and family moved to Grinnell where for a number of years they occupied a farm west of town owned by W.O. Willard. In 1896 Mr. Pigman was appointed city marshall, during Dr. J. Lewis' administration, and previous to this time had served a number of years as night watch. In his capacity as marshall he has served the city long and faithfully. He was good hearted, generous and considerate, but was never known to hesitate in performance of his duties. His kind heart won him many friends. The fire company of which he was a member attended the funeral in a body and marched to the grave. The services were conducted by the Rev. J.M. McClelland of the M.E. church. The pall bearers, members of the fire department were: Messrs. D.J. Herter, M. Green, Wm. Alley, E.M. Neely, G.R. Clifton, M. Hulbert, Chas. Lisk, L. Seiberths.

He was a kind father, a generous friend and a conscientious officer.
