MILDRED BEES

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Congregational Church, Hartwick, for Mrs. Fred (Mildred) Bees, 78. Mrs. Bees died Saturday, Sept. 17 at Marengo hospital after a lengthy illness.

Rev. Walter Martin and Rev. Ron Kooyman officiated at the services. Mrs. George McConnell played two organ solos, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset." In care of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Roberts of Hartwick.

Concluding service and burial were held at the Hartwick Cemetery where pallbearers were Jim Roth, Tim Roth, Dean DeBrower, Lee Walther, Darrell Heishman and Bruce Ostrom.

Funeral arrangements were by McAninch-Fremming Funeral Home of Victor.

Mildred Elizabeth Ostrom was born northeast of Hartwick Dec. 25, 1904. She was the daughter of Fred and Maria Houseman Ostrom. She was graduated from Hartwick School and attended Coe College, Cedar Rapids. She taught rural school near Chelsea several years.

She was united in marriage to Fred Bees Aug. 22, 1928 at Hartwick. They lived their entire married life in Hartwick where she worked as a cook at the Hartwick School for 14 years and as a part-time clerk in the Hartwick Post Office for several years.

She was a member of the Congregational Church, the Women's Fellowship of that church, and the Walnut Creek Aid.

She is survived by her husband, Fred; one daughter, Betty, Mrs. Wallace Roth, Hartwick; one son, Lowell of Enid, Okla.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Edna Ryan and Margaret Heishman of Brooklyn, Dorothy Smith of Montezuma and Nellie Harris of Denison.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
