MRS. MAXINE WENGER, 80

Mrs. Maxine Wenger, 80, of Brooklyn, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell.

Memorial services were held Monday at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn, officiated by the Rev. Reva Rimmer, pastor of the United Methodist New Covenant Parish in Victor. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

Edna Maxine Ryan Wenger, the daughter of Joseph Mark and Edna Rebecca (Ostrom) Ryan, was born Feb. 27, 1923, near Hartwick. She received her education in a rural school. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1941. She also attended a beauty school in Cedar Rapids.

On Jan. 31, 1946, she married Gerald (Jerry) Raymond Wenger in Montezuma. They made their home in Brooklyn. For many years, Maxine drove a bus for BGM Schools. She was a member of the Brooklyn-Victor Country Club and Francis Gallagher American Legion Post Auxiliary until ill health forced her to quit.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1979; her son, Michael, in 1971; and her brother, Max.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy, and her husband, Philip Hesseltine of Panora; her son, Monte Wenger, and his wife, Kay, of Victor; her sister, Marjorie Cannon of Brooklyn; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established for East Poweshiek Ambulance Service. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
