RAYMAN SMITH

Rayman Smith, 84, of Hartwick died Tuesday morning at the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn where he was a patient.

Mr. M.E. Mountain, minister, of Waterloo, officiated. The organist was Mr. Ed Bartachek with vocal selections by the Martin Family of Grinnell. Flower Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. George Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bees. Casket-bearers were Roger Smith, Gary Smith, Kevin Smith, John Van Buren, Joseph Kopplin and Tom Hytrek. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Rayman Theodore Smith, son of Harvey B. Smith and Rosa Decker Smith, was born on January 9, 1893, in Hartwick. He received his education in rural schools. Mr. Smith farmed and operated a road grader for Poweshiek Co. for 38 years.

He was married to Maude E. Showalter on November 28, 1912, near Hartwick, in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob C. Showalter.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Church of Christ of Grinnell. He served on the city council of Hartwick.

He is survived by two sons, Wallace of Dike, and Ralph of Hartwick; three brothers, Rolla Smith of Montezuma, Royal Smtth of Belle Plaine, and Homer Smith of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Clyde; and two brothers, Sealy and Marvin.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, with burial at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brooklyn.
