MR. MCNAUL RITES TODAY

James McNaul, 74, of Rte. 1, Grinnell, died Tuesday morning, May 6, at his home.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carl Klein of the Bethel Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalist was Ruth Ann Dayton. Pallbearers were Bill Gregory, John Griffin, John Jordan, Eugene Miller, Raymond Spriggs, and Robert Story. Flower bearers were Earl and Alene Fopma and Daryl and Alice Thompson. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of John and Mary Jane Moore McNaul, he was born Oct. 11, 1906, in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He attended school there and later came to the U.S. with his sister.

Mr. McNaul settled in the Brooklyn area where he worked as a farmhand. On June 27, 1928, he was married to Lou Mattie Griffin at Brooklyn. Following their marriage, they farmed near Brooklyn until moving to a farm near Montezuma in 1935. They later farmed near Malcom, and in 1966 they moved to a farm southwest of Grinnell.

Mrs. McNaul died in 1971, and on May 18, 1974, Mr. McNaul was married to Tonnie Mae Baird in Grinnell. They continued to live southwest of Grinnell.

Mr. McNaul is survived by his wife, Tonnie; his children, Mrs. Anna Mae Wakeley of Malcom, Mrs. Agnes Jean Creps of Brooklyn, John Eugene McNaul of Montezuma, and Harold Lavern McNaul, Mrs. Betty Lou Roof and Robert J. Baird, all of Grinnell; 21 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four brothers, William McNaul of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Joseph McNaul of Muckamore, Northern Ireland, Samuel McNaul of Brooklyn and Hugh McNaul of Ballyclare, Northern Ireland; and two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Lizzie) Carlsen of Brooklyn and Mrs. Lyn (Agnes) Spriggs of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mattie; his parents; a son, James William McNaul; two sisters, Nell McNaul and Mrs.Georgina Miller; and two brothers, Jameson and Arthur McNaul.
