TONNIE MCNAUL

Tonnie M. Baird McNaul, 78, of 431 Main St., Grinnell, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ray Standerwick, pastor of the Westfield Church, officiating. Organist will be James Severe and vocalist will be Milton Severe. Pallbearers will be Don Coburn, Earl Fopman, Bill Gregory, John Griffin, Gary Richards and Charles Wakeley. Burial will be in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.

A memorial fund has been established.

She was the daughter of Isaac and Nora Gooch Griffin and was born June 21, 1914, in Kellogg. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural school.

On Nov. 28, 1935, she was married to Joseph E. Baird. The couple farmed near Ewart and Deep River. In 1945 they moved to Belle Plaine where she worked in a restaurant. They moved to Montezuma in 1949, and Mrs. McNaul worked for Ross' Dime Store and later operated Joe's Cafe and Baird's Custodial Home.

Following Mr. Baird's death, she was married to James McNaul May 18, 1974. They farmed near Grinnell.

Mrs. McNaul was a member of the Westfield Church.

She is survived by her son, Robert "Bud" Baird of Grinnell; a daughter, Betty Roof of Grinnell; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Harold Pierce and Clyde Griffin, both of Montezuma; and two sisters Virginia Thompson of Fort Collins, Colo., and Dorothy Stemsrud of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; three sisters, Mattie McNaul, Lodema Story and Helen Roberts; and one brother, LaVern Griffin.
