ISAAC GRIFFIN

Isaac, son of Thomas and Sarah Griffin, was born near Woodstock, Ky., on March 28, 1885, and passed away in the St. Francis hospital in Grinnell, on Sept. 13, 1956 at the age of 71 years.

He was baptized in the Olive Baptist church when he was a boy. He grew to manhood in Kentucky, where, on Jan. 17, 1909, he was united in marriage with Nora Gooch. They moved to Texas and in 1911 they moved to Iowa.

To this union, four children were born: Mattie McNaul of Malcom, Lodema Story of Toledo, Tonnie Baird and LaVerne Griffin of Montezuma. Mrs. Griffin passed away in January of 1919.

On Nov. 5, 1927, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Viola Pierce, who was the mother of two children, Harold and Helen. To this union, four children were born: Virginia Thompson of Stanhope, Clyde of Montezuma, Dorothy Pirkl of Victor, and Stella Louise who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife and children, 19 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Montezuma on Monday, Sept. 17. Rev. Olander was in charge. Mrs. Vincent Johnson and Mrs. Earl DeJong sang, accompanied by Alice Underwood.

Pallbearers were Austin Sharer, Virgil Goodrich, Sid Wheeler, John Wiley, Andrew Brocuver, and Ernest McFerrin. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery in Grinnell.
