AGNES J. SPRIGGS, 87

Agnes J. Spriggs, 87, of Grinnell, died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services were held Tuesday (Dec. 23) at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with the Rev. Don Johnson, the pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Grinnell, and the Rev. Tom Lloyd, the pastor of the Westfield Community Church, officiating. A private family burial was held Wednesday morning (Dec. 24) in the Westfield Cemetery.

The casket bearers were Dean and Don Slagle, Brian Spriggs and Ben McFarland.

The daughter of John and Mary Jane Moore McNaul, Agnes was born in Kilmakee, Templepatrick, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. She was raised there, and she received her education in Muckamore, Northern Ireland.

On September 27, 1941, she married Lyn Spriggs in Muckamore. The couple lived in Northern Ireland and England before they moved to Grinnell in 1966. They owned and operated Wagon Wheels West from 1971 until their retirement in 1980. They moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell in 1994.

Agnes is survived by her husband, Lyn; two children, Ray Spriggs of Grinnell and Pat Slagle of Malcom; two brothers, Joseph McNaul of Antrim, Northern Ireland, and Samuel McNaul of Grinnell; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and three sisters.
