GEORGE CARLSEN

George Carl Carlsen, son of Carl and Elizabeth Wylie Carlsen, was born on August 23, 1904, in Madison Township, Poweshiek Co., Iowa. He attended rural schools in Scott Township and attended Fairmount Church, a rural church in Scott Township.

As a young man he worked on farms, later working for the Kraft Cheese Co. in Chicago, Ill. In the late twenties he obtained a job at the John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo where he worked for 36 years. He was united in marriage to Donna Kramer on September 28, 1946, in Kansas. They lived in Waterloo until March 1976 when they moved to Brookhaven in Brooklyn.

Mr. Carlsen was a member of the First Congregational Church, Waterloo, and a member of UAW-Local 838.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sisters, Verna, Mrs. Edward Behounek of Brooklyn, and Hazel, Mrs. Alfred Byers of Montezuma, Ia.; and two brothers, Harold and Leslie Carlsen, both of Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services for George Carlsen, 72, of Brooklyn, were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home. Mr. Carlsen died Friday morning in the Brookhaven Nursing Home where he had been a resident since March of 1976.

Rev. Fred Pierce, Pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiated. Organist was Mrs. Ed Bartachek. Flower attendants were Mrs. John Edelen and Mrs. Carma Mohler. Casket-Bearers were John Edelen, Ray Evans, Wallace Scott, Charles E. Johnston, Dick Williams and Ernest Andes. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery.
