LESLIE J. CARLSEN

Funeral services for Leslie J. Carlsen, 70, of Brooklyn, were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Mr. Carlsen died Tuesday, July 9, 1985, in Grinnell General Hospital, Grinnell, Iowa.

Rev. Raymond D. Moore, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiated. The organist was Mrs. Sybil Kelley. The soloist was Calvin Roudabush. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Denver Miles. Casket-bearers were Ernest Andes, Larry Dayton, Kenneth Richman, Sam McNaul, Jerry Byers and Thomas Sheets. Flag Presentation Ceremony was conducted by members of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post No. 294. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.

Leslie James Carlsen, son of Carl and Lizzie Wylie Carlsen, was born July 4, 1915, on the home farm four miles south of Brooklyn. He attended rural school and the Brooklyn High School, graduating in 1934.

He served with the U.S. Army from Jan. 6, 1942, to Sept. 15, 1945. He was a carpenter and for 20 years was a carpenter with the Myron Byers Construction Company.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Brooklyn.

Surviving are his two sisters and their husbands, Hazel and Alfred Byers of Montezuma and Verna and Edward Behounek of Grinnell; his brother and his wife, Harold and Lizzie Carlsen of Brooklyn; and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George.
