FUNERAL HERE

Native of Denmark
Was 84 Years Old

Funeral services for Carl Carlsen were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, Aug. 25 at Bramer's funeral home in charge of the Rev. M.O. McKenzie, pastor of Grace Methodist church.

Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery with the following grandsons serving as pallbearers: Myron and Lowell Byers, Larry Dayton and Earl A. Allen, all of Montezuma and Clinton and Carroll Smith of Brooklyn.

Mr. Carlsen's death occurred at his home in Brooklyn Aug. 23 following a brief illness. He was 84 years old.

BORN IN DENMARK

Carl Carsen, oldest son of Lars and Dorothy Christiansen Carlsen, was born on the island of Agerso, Denmark, July 13, 1867. Early in life he became a member of the Danish Lutheran church and has been a member of the Methodist church since moving to Brooklyn.

As a young man Mr. Carlsen served three years at sea with the White Star Steamship Line. In 1888, at the age of 21, he came to America and worked on a farm near Blairstown, Iowa for five years before coming to Poweshiek county.

FATHER OF FIVE

On February 23, 1898 he was married to Elizabeth Wylie and moved to a farm near Brooklyn. Five children were born to the couple: Harold of Brooklyn; George of Waterloo; Mrs. Alfred (Hazel) Byers of Montezuma and Mrs. Edward (Verna) Behounek and Leslie of Brooklyn. His wife's death occurred Dec. 25, 1925.

In February, 1928 he moved to Brooklyn and on March 16, 1929, was married to Mrs. Ada Ostrom.

In addition to his wife and five children he is survived by two step-sons Percy Ostrom and William Smith of Brooklyn; a step-daughter, Mrs. Grace Dayton of Montezuma; 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
