HAROLD "MIKE" PROVIN

The son of Clyde and Edna Mullen Provin, Mike was born April 5, 1929, in Guernsey. He attended Guernsey Consolidated School and was graduated in 1947.

He was married to Evelyn Louise Humes June 23, 1951, in Guernsey. He served in the United States Army and farmed in the Guernsey area before he began his career with Amana Refrigeration. He retired in 1992, after 40 years of service.

Mike was a former mayor and councilman in Guernsey. He was a member of the LaFayette Masonic Lodge #52, A.F. and A.M. in Montezuma, the Poweshiek County Shriners, Gallagher American Legion in Brooklyn, and a member of the Poweshiek County 4-H and F.F.A., where he served on the fair board for 18 years, a beef superintendent for 12 years, and was a leader for 10 years. He was a life-long member of the Guernsey United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Guernsey; his mother, Edna of Guernsey; five children, Michael Ray of Malcom, Randal Rexford of Williamsburg, Daniel Eugene of Guernsey, Rodney Edward of Chetek, Wis., and Connie Lynn Erickson of Shore View, Minn.; seven grandchildren, and a brother, Donald Provin of Guernsey.

Mike died Aug. 23, at his home, at the age of 65. He was preceded in death by his father in May of 1968.

Funeral services were held Aug. 26, at the McAninch-Fremming Funeral Home in Victor. The Rev. Torger Johnson of United Methodist Church, Victor, was Officiant. Music was provided by Marilyn Kriegel, organist, and Sue Kluber, soloist, singing "Wind Beneath My Wings," and "I Have Loved You."

Pallbearers were Earl Altemeier Daryl Goodlow, Larry Gwin, Maynard Heishman, Farrell Johnson, Duane Phelps, Lester Schneekloth, Lloyd Sieck. Honorary Bearers were George Axmear, Lyle Berry, Scott Blaine, Virtus Cordes, F.H. "Doc" Dierenfeld, Edward Haugen, Jim McIlrath and David Montross.

Ceremonial Rites were provided by members of the LaFayette Masonic Lodge #52, and members of the Gallagher American Legion.

Interment was at the Guernsey Cemetery.
