USEFUL LIFE OF ELI GRAHAM REACHES CLOSE

Eli Graham, son of Archie and Jane Graham, was born Sept. 11, 1861, in Scott county, near Davenport, and departed this life Jan. 6, 1933, at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 26 days.

He came from Davenport with his parents when a small boy and located near Lynnville, Iowa. Later they moved to a farm near Searsboro where he grew to manhood.

In his early life he was an active worker in the church and Sunday school, and later had shown great respect for the church and its activities.

During the time he lived at home he was always thoughtful and faithful to his parents, always ready and willing to share his part of the family life. Being anxious to obtain a home of his own he worked, sacrificed and endured many hardships in securing the farm near Searsboro.

On Nov. 15, 1893, he was united in marriage to Willomina Hoover. They located in their new home which he had so sincerely prepared and where he has since lived. To this union three children were born.

He was a loving and devoted husband and father, always more thoughtful of others than himself. During his life he carried a jolly, pleasant disposition which made him many friends. He was always fond of his family and spent his life endeavoring to secure their happiness. At all times he was pleased to have them gather about. There was no place like home. His duty to his family was never neglected to the end.

Those who knew him will always remember his pleasant smiles and cheeful words.

For many years he had been in failing health which he patiently endured. The last few days he suffered with complications resulting in a heart attack.

Besides his wife and three children, Mrs. Ethel Brooks, Elsie and Earl Graham, he is survived by three grandchildren, Naomi Brooks, Eulice and Vernon Graham; four brothers, Philip of Los Angeles, Calif., John of Des Moines, Frank of Lynnville and Alexander of Grinnell; three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Williams of Brooklyn, Mrs. Mary Slaven of Perry, Okla., and Mrs. Martha Van Horn of Brooklyn, and one uncle, Hope Graham of Harris, Iowa; also many other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 1:30 with Rev. Guy Harvey of Marshalltown in charge, and Rev. Paul Hadley officiating. Music was furnished by the Bethel quartet, and a special solo by Mrs. Bessie Saunders of Searsboro.

Pall bearers were neighbors, Charles Ohmart, Geo. Van Gorp, Ira Brandt, Arthur Cope, Jas. Livezy and Joe Dexter.

Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery in Grinnell.
