RITES HELD FOR DR. MILLGATE

Dr. Sylvester G. Millgate, 88, of Brooklyn died suddenly Saturday evening, Aug. 31, at St. Francis Manor, where he had been a patient the past three years.

The son of George and Roxy Foster Millgate, he was born Nov. 17, 1885, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County. He received his education in the rural schools and was graduated from the Veterinary College in St. Joseph, Mo., in 1912. Upon graduation, he established his practice in Brooklyn, where he continued to practice for 60 years until his health failed.

He was married to Belle Dillsaver on Dec. 19, 1917, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 1974. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Brooklyn.

Dr. Millgate is survived by two brothers, Vern of Grinnell and Oliver of rural Grinnell, and a sister, Mrs. Maria Hamilton, also of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Services for Dr. Millgate were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the Bethel Church, with the Rev. Morris Hay officiating. Vocalist was Connie Huff, and pallbearers were Edwin Richardson, Robert Richardson, Walter Richardson, Keith Brannian, Kenneth Brannian and William Dale, Jr.

The James-Schalinske Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
