OPAL MILLGATE

Opal Gladys Millgate, 91, formerly of Grinnell, died at the Iowa Veterans Home Thursday, Feb. 2,

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Carl Binegar, August DeVault, Raymond King, Warren Miller, Marlyn Olson and Gerald Sampson.

Burial was in Bethel Cemetery in Jasper County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kellogg Historical Museum or the restoration of the Bethel Church.

The daughter of Clayton John and Rosa Barker Hay, she was born Feb. 2, 1904, near Mingo. She received her education in the Mingo School District.

She was married to Verner Brown Millgate Nov. 27, 1922, in Newton. They farmed near Grinnell and later lived in Boone and Rock Island, Ill., before returning to Grinnell in 1930. She had been a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home since 1982.

She is survived by one daughter, Fern Beitner of Iowa City; two grandchildren; and one sister, Irene May Briggs of Grand Rapids, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, the Rev. Morris W. Hay and John E. Hay.
