JAS. HOTCHKIN IS KILLED IN WRECK

Funeral Services Are Held This Morning for Grinnell Man Killed in Des Moines

Funeral services were held at 9:30 this morning at St. Mary's church for James A. Hotchkin, long time resident of Grinnell, who lost his life Tuesday evening in an automobile accident in Des Moines.

Mr. Hotchkin, who was 64 years old at the time of his death, had spent practically all of his life in Grinnell, being born here on May 11, 1871, of mixed Irish and English parentage, and had followed the profession of stationary engineer for many years. He was married in 1901 to Mary Frances Duggan, who shortly preceded him in death, dying here about a month ago following a long illness, and the two were the parents of six children, four of whom remain in Grinnell. They include Mrs. Robert Badger, James Joseph, John Lawrence and Gerald, all of Grinnell, and Mrs. Floyd Ashing of Des Moines and Mrs. Proctor Stepp of Kellogg.

The accident in which Mr. Hotchkin was killed occurred while he was driving with a nephew, Ray McLaughlin, while visiting his daughter, Mrs. Ashing of Des Moines. The car in which the two were driving in east Des Moines collided with a truck, and death for Mr. Hotchkin was almost instantaneous. Mr. McLaughlin suffered a broken leg and various other body injuries, while the automobile was totally destroyed.
