FUNERAL SERVICES AT SHERIDAN FOR MRS. MINNIE SHOPE

Mrs. Minnie C. Shope, well known Sheridan resident, died June 3rd at a Grinnell hospital.

Funeral services were held June 6th from the Sheridan Methodist church with the Rev. Donald Woogie officiating. Music consisted of congregational singing of "In the Garden," and "Ivory Palaces," with Mrs. Fred Weaver, Jr., playing the piano accompaniment.

Floral attendanats were Mrs. Alice Wolcott, Mrs. Cloyd Gross, Mrs. LaVerne Lamb, Mrs. Norval Simmons, Mrs. Henry Schmidt, and Mrs. Catherine Wooten. Pallbearers were LaVerne Lamb, Cleir? Simmons, Donald Parker, Lester Plum, Eldon Peterson, and Foster Wolcott. Interment was in Sheridan cemetery.

Born May 14th, 1903, in Columbia Township, Tama, she was the daughter of George and Alvina Miller Buchmeyer. She attended the rural school at Columbia No. 5. Baptized in the Lutheran church near her childhood home, in later years she was a faithful member of the Methodist church in the Sheridan vicinity. She was also a member of the W.S.C.S. and the Welcome In Club.

On Jan. 9th, 1934, she married Henry Ward Shope, who was owner of the Sheridan store. They started their married life in his home near the store and this was her dwelling until her death.

To this union three children were born: Ward Ramon, Terry Lynne and Wendell Lee. Also raised by Mrs. Shope were her husband's two children by a previous marriage, Ralph Wesley and Shirley Ann. Her husband died March 12, 1945, at the age of 40. Mrs. Shope continued to operate the Sheridan store in partnership with Allan Graff until about six months ago when ill health forced her to discontinue work.

Surviving are the children: Ralph Wesley of Moorestown, N.J., Mrs. Dale (Shirley) Wolfe of Swisher, Ward Ramon of Freeport, Ill., Mrs. Clyde (Terry) Davis of Des Moines, and Wendell Lee of Iowa City.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Beth, Mary, Meg, Ward and David Shope of Moorestown, N.J.: Steven Wolfe of Swisher; and Nancy Rene Shope of Freeport, Ill. Other survivors are three sisters, Mrs. William (Marie) Fuoss of Riceville, Mrs. Orien (Lena) Pagel of Tama, and Mrs. James (Dora) Alvin of Tama; and three brothers, Henry of Lenora, Kan., Charles of Toledo, and Martin of Tama.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
