Alma L. Babb, daughter of Anthony and Millie Babb, was born in Highland township, Tama County, Iowa, January 17, 1876, and departed this life at the home of her son Ward, in Sheridan, Nov. 15, 1928 at the age of 52 years, 9 months and 28 days.

She was united in marriage to J.F. Shope January 17, 1898 and lived in the vicinity of Sheridan until the past four years, one in Grinnell and three at Toledo. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Shope, one dying in infancy, and the others survive with the husband to mourn her loss. They are: Mrs. Olive Dodd of Belle Plaine, Ray of Grinnell, Ward of Sheridan, and Robert and Hubert of Toledo. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Victor McFate of Madison township, and two brothers, Clarence Babb of Grundy Center and David Babb of Tama. There are also five grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Frank Smith preceded her in death just two days.

She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Toledo, the Rebekah lodge of Toledo and the Royal Neighbors of Tama. Mrs. Shope was always a leader in every activity of a social and community character and was president of the Sheridan Ladies Aid a number of times. In all her interests she gave unstinted, loyal service.

She will be greatly missed in the community and home. She had been ill for several months, but her final moments were peaceful as she slipped out into God's great Better World.

Funeral services were held at the Sheridan M.E. Church conducted by Rev. F.A. Moore, of Grinnell assisted by Rev. Mr. Wilson pastor of the church. Interment in Sheridan Cemetery
