CHARLES SUMNER FUNERAL RITES

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Smith funeral home for Charles Irwin Sumner, 61, who died Saturday at a local hospital. The Rev. Donald Loots of St. John's Lutheran church will officiate. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

He was born July 10, 1895 at Ottumwa, the son of the late Thomas Sumner and Elsie Daggett Sumner who survives.

June 25, 1915, he was married to June Castle in Des Moines. They have lived in Grinnell the past 19 years, coming here from Ottumwa. Mr. Sumner was president of the Sumner Bros. Seed company, and a member of the local Elks lodge.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one son, Charles and two grandchildren Charles and Gordon. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Betty Holland and Mrs. Alberta Pencil.

Pallbearers will be cousins of Mr. Sumner, Harold, Haller, Kenneth Johnson, Seward Monroe, Lester Rominger, Bernard Roth and Louis Castle. Music will be furnished by Joe McCoy who will be accompanied by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Honorary pallbearers are Harvey Mikel, A.B. Hamilton, John Winchell, A.E. Maron, David McClure, Howard Southern, Orlo Southern, Art Holmdahl, James Roth and Joe Becker.
