EDWARD GORSUCH

Edward Gorsuch was born in Brook county, West Virginia, August 3rd, 1829, and died May 31, 1911, at his residence, 8 miles southeast of Grinnell, aged 81 years, 9 months and 29 days.

Father Gorsuch grew to manhood in the county in which he was born. On June 14, 1849, he was united in marriage to Sarah A. Cowan. To this union were born 11 children, four of whom have preceded him to the better world.

In 1851 he, with his young wife, came West to seek a home and brave the hardships of a western life. They settled in Iowa near Browntown and lived near there for twenty years, then moved to the place where he died.

The names of the children who are still living are, Mary Wood, who lives near the old home, Matilda Winherst (Windhurst) of Williamsburg, Flora, of Stilicomb (Steilacoom), Wash., Emma Reed of Mahaska county, George who is at home, Nellie Hook, near Searsboro, and Della Bortell, of Sheridan.

The children were all at home except Flora.

Father Gorsuch was coverted when a young man and has lived a consistent Christian life, taking great interest in the work of the church and never ceasing till death ended his labors here.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, six daughters, one son, 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors. Our loss will be his gain.

The funeral occurred Sunday, June 4, at Blue Point church, conducted by Rev. E.O. Rankin, assisted by Rev. E.W. Gregson, after which the body was laid at rest in the cemetery at the church.
