Anna Lucille Wherry Benesh, 98, died May 18 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor, with the Rev. Ronald Van Heukelom officiating. Organist was Marilyn Kriegel, and vocalist was Sue Kluber. Casket bearers were Sheri Atkinson; Teri Izek; David, Daniel and Douglas Michalek; and Maretta Grattan. Honorary bearers were Todd DeSmidt and Ed Grattan.

Burial was in Guernsey Cemetery.

The daughter of George H. and Anna Winifred Berstler Wherry, she was born Dec. 6, 1901, on the family farm north of Guernsey.

The family moved to the Obed Wherry farm in 1910, and she was raised there and attended school in Guernsey.

She was married to Frank H. Benesh July 2, 1921, at her parents' home. They farmed for 30 years, living on farms near Guernsey, Deep River and Brooklyn.

Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Benesh of Newton and Sarah Michalek of Victor; one son, Loyal of Brooklyn; 12 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Ruth Shoemaker; two brothers, Grant and Mayo; and one granddaughter.
