Clinton A. Smith, 67

Clinton A. Smith, 67, of Grinnell, died on Thursday, April 14, 2005, at his home.

A Masonic service was held at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, and a funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 21,2005, at the Grinnell Christian Church with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the church, officiating. Music was provided by Marlene Toney and Rodger Kendall. Casketbearers were Denise and Dave Kaisand, Dan and Kathy Smith, Dean and Patti Smith, Don Smith and Brandy Daugherty, Justin Michael, Patrick Elliott and Darrin Kaisand. Interment was at the Chester Cemetery near Grinnell.

Memorials may be directed to the Grinnell Christian Church, the American Heart Association, or to the Shriners Childrens' Hospital.

Clint was born on July 18, 1937, in Grinnell, to William Abel and Dorothy (Miller) Smith. He was raised on the family farm, attended rural school and graduated from Brooklyn High School with the Class of 1955.

On October 28, 1956, he married Phyllis Gildersleeve at the Chester Church near Grinnell. Following their wedding the couple lived in the Brooklyn area and in 1959, they moved to Chester Township near Grinnell, where they farmed and he transported milk for Don Thompson. He also owned and operated Smitty's Farm Service and Agri Service. He had worked as a sales representative for Miraco since 1988.

He was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Grinnell Masonic Lodge and the Kaaba Shrine in Davenport. He held various offices in the Sonora Grange and was an Elder of the Grinnell Christian Church. In 1967, Clint and Phyllis were named "Young Couple of the Year" by the National Grange.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Smith of Grinnell; one daughter, Denise (David) Kaisand of Kellogg; sons Daniel (Kathy) Smith of Des Moines, Dean (Patti) Smith of Mechanicsburg, Penn., and Donald (Brandy Daugherty) Smith of Orlando, Fla.; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Warren Smith of Carthage, Mo., and Carroll Smith of Malcom; and two sisters, Erma DePauw of Grinnell, and Linda Jeffrey of Deep River.

He was preceeded in death by his parents and his daughter, Darla Smith.
