EVELYN PEAK SERVICES TODAY

Evelynn Peak, 73, of 1822 Ninth Ave. died Friday, Oct. 5, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at the Grinnell Christian Church, with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Organists will be Jolene Jones and Linda Mindrup. Vocalists will be Roger Kendell, Marlene Toney and the Rev. Keith Briggs.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Knoll, Craig Stadtmueller, Greg Sturtz, Steven Sturtz, Brian Tokle and Bruce Tokle. Honorary bearers will be David Gross, Richard Gross, Roland Gross, Ronald Gross, Gary Miller, Marion Miller, Marvin Miller, Max Miller, Robert E. Miller Jr., Carroll Smith, Clinton Smith and Warren Smith.

Memorials in Mrs. Peak's name may be made to the Grinnell Christian Church, Hospice Grinnell or the American Cancer Society and left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The daughter of Samuel Thompson and Carrie Hayes Miller, she was born March 29, 1911, at Brooklyn. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1929 and later taught in rural schools near Brooklyn for four years.

She was married to Edward B. Peak on May 19, 1933. The couple farmed in the Gilman area prior to moving to Grinnell in 1979.

Mrs. Peak was a charter member of the Grinnell Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the church circle. She was also a member of the Grinnell Searchlight Club and a former member of the Newburg Progress Club and Onyx Chapter No. 350, O.E.S., Gilman.

She is survived by her husband; her children, Katherine Sturtz of Gilman, Edward L. Peak of Newburg, Sandra Tokle of rural Grinnell, Carolyn Stadtmueller of rural Monticello and Paulette Knoll of rural Gilman; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Smith of Grinnell; and two brothers, Robert E. Miller of Des Moines and Willis Miller of Lincoln, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter; two sisters, Lillian Gross and Myrtle Prosser; and one brother, Perry Miller.
