DOROTHY E. SMITH

Dorothy E. Smith, 88, of Grinnell, formerly of Brooklyn, died Sunday, May 29, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at the Madison Church of Christ near Brooklyn, with Ken Siemens of Grove, Okla., officiating. Organist was Marilyn Lang, pianist Brenda DePauw and vocalists Joel and Rosie DePauw. Pallbearers were her grandsons, James, John and Joel DePauw and Mike, Dan, Sam, Kenny, Ed, David, Chris, Dean and Don Smith.

Burial was in Brooklyn Cemetery with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was the daughter of Samuel and Carrie Hayes Miller and was born Jan. 19, 1906, in Sheridan Township. She attended rural school and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1924.

She was married to William Smith and the couple farmed in the Brooklyn area. Mrs. Smith moved to Grinnell in 1983.

She was a member of the Madison Church of Christ, the Madison Ladies Aid, the Madison Missionary Society and the New Idea Club.

Surviving are three sons, Warren of Carthage, Mo., Carroll of Malcom and Clinton of Grinnell; two daughters, Erma DePauw of Grinnell and Linda Jeffrey of Deep River; 20 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Perry, Robert and Willis Miller; and three sisters, Lillian Gross, Evelyn Peak and Myrtle Prosser.
